Whether you prefer to relax with an activity in Arusha or head straight to Tarangire for your safari adventure, we’ll tailor everything to match your preference.

Day 2:

Tarangire National Park Game Drive – Transfer to Karatu

After a hearty breakfast, you will depart for Tarangire National Park, driving through Maasai villages and open plains. Tarangire is famous for its massive elephant population and towering baobab trees. During the dry season, the Tarangire River is the only source of water and attracts animals from far and wide.

Your game drive begins upon arrival. Look out for elephants, lions, wildebeest, giraffes, and the elusive leopard. Tarangire also offers fantastic birdwatching with over 500 species recorded. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park, then continue the game drive into the afternoon.

By late afternoon, drive to the cool highlands of Karatu, where you will overnight at a beautiful lodge surrounded by coffee plantations.

Pro Tip: Don’t miss Tarangire National Park—it’s a hidden gem with large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and fewer crowds. During the dry season (June to October), animals gather around the Tarangire River, making game viewing easy and exciting.

Including Tarangire in your safari adds variety and a peaceful start to your Northern Circuit adventure. It’s close to Arusha and offers a true wild Africa feeling, perfect for nature lovers and photographers.

Day 3:

Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive – Return to Karatu

Early Morning Game Drive

Rise early for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. After breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the most iconic wildlife destinations in Africa.

This natural wonder is home to almost every species of African wildlife, including the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. The crater floor is also rich with zebras, wildebeests, hippos, warthogs, and large flocks of flamingos around Lake Magadi.

Enjoy a long game drive exploring the grasslands, woodlands, and soda lakes. Midday, stop for a picnic lunch at the hippo pool, a popular rest area where hippos soak in the cool water while you eat just meters away.

Return to Karatu in the late afternoon for a relaxing evening. You may choose to take a walk around the lodge gardens or enjoy a traditional Tanzanian meal.

Day 4:

Lake Manyara National Park Game Drive – Return to Arusha

On your final safari day, you will visit the compact but diverse Lake Manyara National Park. Drive through a lush groundwater forest at the entrance, home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys. Then emerge into open grasslands and acacia woodlands, where you might spot elephants and buffalo.

Lake Manyara is most famous for its tree-climbing lions, which rest on branches during the heat of the day. It is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with thousands of flamingos and over 400 bird species.

You will also enjoy the Manyara Treetop Walkway, a thrilling canopy walk through the forest, giving you a bird’s-eye view of the park.

After a picnic lunch by the lakeshore, begin your drive back to Arusha. Your guide will drop you off at your hotel or Kilimanjaro Airport, ending your 4 Days Tanzania Safari Extension with unforgettable memories.
