Top 5 Activities in Serengeti for All Ages
Game Drives
The perfect safari experience, game drives let families see the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros) up close. Early morning and late afternoon drives are best because animals are more active during these cooler times.
In addition to the Big Five, families can also spot giraffes, zebras, and many colorful birds. Guides often share interesting facts about the animals and their behaviors, making the drives both fun and educational for kids. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture these amazing moments!
Balloon Safaris
Families can take to the skies in a hot air balloon for an extra touch of magic. Floating gently over the plains at sunrise gives a breathtaking view of the Serengeti, with panoramic scenes that will leave everyone in awe.
In addition to the stunning views, a hot air balloon ride offers a peaceful and unique way to observe wildlife from above. The experience often includes a celebratory breakfast upon landing, making it a memorable adventure for the whole family.
Nature Walks
Short, guided nature walks are perfect for families with older children. These walks offer a chance to learn about the smaller inhabitants of the Serengeti, from insects and plants to birds and reptiles, making for a richly educational experience.
In addition to spotting wildlife up close, these walks allow families to connect with nature in a more intimate way. Knowledgeable guides share fascinating facts about the ecosystem, making the experience both fun and informative. Remember to wear comfortable shoes and bring water!
Cultural Visits
Meeting the local Maasai communities offers families an enriching cultural exchange. Children and parents can learn about Maasai traditions, music, dance, and daily life, gaining a deeper understanding of the region’s human heritage.
Visiting Maasai villages often includes interactive experiences like traditional dances and crafts demonstrations. Families can participate in these activities, creating memorable moments while learning about the Maasai way of life firsthand. It’s a chance to appreciate their rich culture and the importance of community in the Serengeti region.
Junior Ranger Programmes
Some lodges offer junior ranger programs where children can join activities like animal tracking, learning about conservation, and bushcraft skills. These programs are educational and enjoyable, giving young explorers a sense of accomplishment and connection to the wild.
Participating in these programs helps children understand the importance of protecting wildlife and their habitats. They can make new friends and share their experiences with other young nature enthusiasts. It’s a hands-on way for kids to engage with the environment and learn valuable skills while having fun on safari in the Serengeti.

We had an amazing experience, even though it was quite tough (especially because of the rainy season). We made it to the top thanks to this wonderful crew. They even shared their rain jacket and waterproof gloves with us. The chef prepared delicious meals, and the waiter took great care of us (including water to wash ourselves, tea, popcorn and hot water in a bottle to keep us warm during the night). Happyson and team spared no efforts and we had a lot of fun together. On the fourth day, right before the gate, we were surprised by seeing so many wild animals and the beautiful waterfall. The two giraffes at just a few meters away was amazing. Would definitely recommend!!Romy H2023-11-28Safari with David from Seko tours David was our guide for our 2 day Tarangire and 1 day Ngorongoro safari. We were with a group of 4 friends and David was the best guide we could wish for. He had a lot of knowledge about the area, the animals, the culture, actually about everything. He could find every amimal we wanted to see including the difficult to spot cheeta, leopard and rhino. He did everything to get us the best spot to view and photograph the animals. When viewing, he told us a lot of intersting facts about the animals and the area they are in. Between the safari days David also was our driver to all locations in between, always on time and always with surprises, like beer or a great warm lunch. Thanks David you made our trip really worth it!!Avdb2023-10-28Best Safari guides with a lot of knowledge, friendliness and fun We had a wonderful experience with our guides Shabani (mr walking encyclopedia) and John (mr juice).
