The Jozani forest is a natural reserve located 35 km southeast of Zanzibar City, between Chawaka Bay and Uzi Bay.
It’s the only natural forest left on Unguja Island and covers 10 square km. The forest is home to very old trees, some over 100 years old, and many interesting animals like the Red Colobus monkey, a small Zanzibar leopard, blue monkey, chameleon, mongoose, bush baby, tree hyrax, bush pig, civet, and two small antelope species that only live on Zanzibar: the Zanzibar duiker and sunni.

Jozani Forest, also called Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, is in Chwaka Village on the east coast of Unguja Island, the biggest island in Zanzibar.
It is the largest forest in Zanzibar and is well-known for having many Red Colobus monkeys, which are one of the oldest monkey species in the world.
Besides monkeys, the forest has rare medicinal plants and a natural mangrove area. The whole forest covers 50 km2 (19 sq mi). We’ve arranged a walking tour to show you all the interesting spots.
