Detailed 3 Days Mount Meru Customized Itinerary
Day 1:
Arusha – Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut
Altitude: 1,500m (Gate) to 2,514m (Hut)
Distance: 10 km (6-7 hours)
Difficulty: Moderate
Start early from Arusha. After a short drive to Arusha National Park, we check-in at Momella Gate. An armed park ranger will join the group for safety, as you may see wild animals like zebras, giraffes, and buffalos on the trail.
The hike begins in open grassland, then passes through montane forest full of birds and monkeys. We stop for lunch on the trail and continue climbing to Miriakamba Hut. Enjoy sunset views before dinner.

Day 2:
Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut
Altitude: 2,514m to 3,570m
Distance: 8 km (3-5 hours)
Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
After breakfast, we climb steep paths through a forest zone. You will notice the air getting thinner. We pass the Mgongo wa Tembo viewpoint, where you can see the Meru Crater and ash cone.
After 4 to 5 hours of hiking, we reach Saddle Hut, near Little Meru. In the afternoon, we do a short hike (1 hour) to the summit of Little Meru (3,820m). This helps with acclimatization and offers great sunset views.

Day 3:
Summit Attempt – Momella Gate – Arusha
Altitude: 3,570m to 4,566m (summit) and back to 1,500m (Gate)
Distance: 18 km (10–12 hours total)
Difficulty: Challenging
We wake up at midnight for the summit attempt. After tea and snacks, we begin climbing by headlamp. The trail goes up steeply to Rhino Point (3,800m) and then to Cobra Point (4,350m). The final stretch to Mount Meru Summit (Socialist Peak) is steep and rocky, but the sunrise at the top is unforgettable.
After enjoying the summit, we descend back to Saddle Hut for brunch, rest a bit, and then continue all the way down to Momella Gate.
