After the morning drive, you will return to the lodge for a full breakfast.

After breakfast, you will go out again for another game drive to see more wildlife. Then, you will come back to the lodge for lunch and have some time to relax. In the late afternoon, when it’s cooler, you will head out once more for an evening game drive on the Ndutu Plains. 🗓️ Best Time to Visit for Calving Season

The best time to visit Tanzania for the Wildebeest Calving Safari is during the green season, from late January to early March. This is when the great herds settle in the Ndutu Plains, located in the Southern Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Here’s why this time is perfect:

✅ January to March – The Calving Season

  • Wildebeests give birth to over 500,000 calves during this period.

  • Most calves are born in February, making it the peak month for calving.

  • You can see live births almost every hour, right from your safari vehicle.

  • Baby wildebeests start walking just minutes after birth—it’s incredible to see!

✅ Great Weather for Safari

  • This is the short dry season, with some scattered light rains.

  • Grass is green and short, which means better visibility for wildlife viewing.

  • Warm days and cooler evenings make for comfortable game drives.

✅ Fewer Tourists, More Privacy

  • Unlike the crowded river crossing season (July to September), the calving season is less busy.

  • You get more peaceful game drives and better chances to enjoy animal sightings without too many vehicles around.

✅ Excellent Photography Opportunities

  • The open plains, dramatic skies, and cute newborn animals make this season a dream for photographers.

  • Predator-prey action, soft natural light, and fewer crowds allow for better, uninterrupted shots.

✅ Amazing Predator Sightings

  • Because calves are being born every day, predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas are very active.

  • You’ll see exciting scenes of nature—some dramatic, some emotional.

  • Calving season is one of the best times to see hunting behavior in the wild.

📷 February is the top month to visit—this is when you’ll see the most births and the most predator action.

💡 Tip: Book your safari at least 3–6 months in advance to get the best lodges near the action!
