Even though Tanzania has both the biggest and deepest lakes in Africa, there are few chances for canoeing safaris. You can only do game viewing from a canoe in Arusha National Park, Lake Duluti, and Lake Manyara National Park (if the water level is high enough). These are all canoeing on lakes, not rivers, and each safari lasts no more than 3 hours.
We started our canoeing safaris in Lake Manyara National Park after El Nino flooded most of the park, making canoes a smart way to see wildlife. This was the first adventure activity allowed in any Tanzanian National Park, and we are still the only outfitter allowed to offer this activity.
