Best Time to Travel Tanzania
Dry Season (June to October)
This is the best time for wildlife viewing in Tanzania. The weather is dry, skies are clear, and animals gather around water sources, making them easier to spot. It’s the perfect season to visit the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, especially if you want to see the Great Migration river crossings from July to September.
Wet Season (November to May)
The wet season brings beautiful green landscapes, fewer tourists, and great birdwatching. From January to March, it’s calving season in the Serengeti, when thousands of baby wildebeest are born and predators are active. While there’s more rain, the scenery is stunning and the experience feels peaceful and less crowded.
Tip: For the Great Migration, plan between June and August or January to March (calving season).
