Best Time to Travel Tanzania

Tanzania is a year-round safari destination, but the best time to visit depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for. Both the dry and wet seasons have something special to offer.

Dry Season (June to October)

This is the best time for wildlife viewing in Tanzania. The weather is dry, skies are clear, and animals gather around water sources, making them easier to spot. It’s the perfect season to visit the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, especially if you want to see the Great Migration river crossings from July to September.

Wet Season (November to May)

The wet season brings beautiful green landscapes, fewer tourists, and great birdwatching. From January to March, it’s calving season in the Serengeti, when thousands of baby wildebeest are born and predators are active. While there’s more rain, the scenery is stunning and the experience feels peaceful and less crowded.

Tip: For the Great Migration, plan between June and August or January to March (calving season).

Suggested Safari Itinerary: 7 Days in Northern Tanzania

Here’s a sample itinerary to give you an idea:

Day 1 – Arrive in Arusha
Day 2 – Drive to Tarangire for game drive
Day 3 – Visit Lake Manyara Park
Day 4-5 – Explore Serengeti (2 full game drive days)
Day 6 – Visit Ngorongoro Crater
Day 7 – Return to Arusha / Flight Home

🛫 Add a Zanzibar extension if you want beach time!

Add Zanzibar for the Perfect Safari & Beach Combo

After a dusty safari, Zanzibar is the perfect place to relax. You can:

  • Swim in turquoise waters

  • Explore Stone Town

  • Go snorkeling or diving

  • Enjoy fresh seafood

🏝️ We can add this to any safari package!

Tips to Improve Your Safari Experience

  • Wake up early—animals are most active in the morning

  • Be patient—some animals take time to appear

  • Respect the wildlife—don’t shout or throw things

  • Carry a power bank to charge your camera/phone

  • Use a good zoom lens for animal photography

📷 You don’t need to be a pro photographer—just enjoy the moment!
