Selous River Camp

Overview of Selous River Camp

Selous Riverside Safari Camp is one of the many camps outside the reserve and is considered one of the better ones. However, it is not in the best spot because you need to drive 15-20 minutes through a village to reach the reserve entrance. The camp sits on the bank of the Rufiji River but looks out over fields instead of the bush. We always suggest staying inside the park for easy access to the best wildlife areas and to enjoy a real safari experience.

The Selous River Camp - The Facts

The tented camp is 5 km from Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) and has 10 large tents, each facing the Rufiji River. All tents have private bathrooms with hot and cold water, colorful furniture, and a relaxing veranda with a river view.

The big dining area and deck are great for enjoying a true African meal under the stars. The pool goes up to the river, making it a perfect place to relax after a game drive.

Selous Riverside Safari Camp offers game drives in open 4×4 vehicles, boat safaris on the Rufiji River, and walking safaris in the Selous bush with experienced guides.

There are better camps inside the park, but you can still have a nice Tanzania safari here.

Inside, the huts are nice and cozy, with comfy double beds, big private bathrooms, and solar-powered fans. It’s a great spot to relax after a day of safari adventures and is also a good value. (For a cheaper option, you can choose the Rest Camp Tents.)
